Barakos vs FamBam

3 Generation of Ballers – The Mesa family

In what could be the first of the basketball world, The DUB League Volume 2.0 will feature three generations of basketball bloodline, The Mesa Family, facing off the group of young guns from West DFW Area.

FamBam, as the team is fondly called, features the three generation of Mesa Family, Frank, Frankie, and Devan. They will all be playing for the first time in a competitive league setting. Frankie is a 6’3″ to 6’5″ giant will be playing with his dad, Frank, and son, Devan. Another family connection in the team is from the Filomeno Family. Bhon will be playing alongside his sons Brian and Raffy Filomeno.

The family connection does not end there. Phoenix Galing, who was instrumental for the eventual champions SemiPro, will be playing alongside his cousin, Trey Macabare.

Steven Nicolas is also considered family by Frankie given that both have Pacific Islander heritage and connection.

Which brings us to Noel Bagalso who in many ways is family for Frankie and will bring versatile point guard play and scoring for the team.

The Barakos will feature high IQ point guard Neil Bagalso, Point Forward Carl Agcamara, newcomer Eugene Piong, who played briefly for the Dragonballz in the Quarterfinals last season. Long time baller Yoneo Gamalinda will show his veteran skills along with Loven Villanueva, Julius Ramos, and Paolo Olea. Mark Anorico, John Dahan, and Michael Perez will provide support for the team.

The storyline does not end with 3 Generation of Mesa Family. You also have sibling rivalry between Neil and Noel Bagalso.

Carabao Crew vs The Underdogs

The One that got away – Jeff or Rodfil?

This is a very appropriate title for this game. Jeff Duria and Rodfil Camacho were the one-two punch of The DUB League Volume 1.0 Champions, SemiPro. Now, they are separated this season and had to face the music alone.

Jeff Duria’s previous team, SemiPro, disbanded before the draft and decided to use a different name, Carabao Crew. Coined by gentle giant, Gabe Gaw, this team will feature a combination of players composed of veterans, shooters, slashers alike. Gideon Gaw will play together for the first time with his brother. Cy Real (I still don’t know his real name) will wear the DUB jerseys for the first time and is looking forward to show his high flying acrobatics as well as speed and agility on the court. Paul Echaore, another fresh face, is known for his 3 point shooting and speedy guard play. Marvin Gonzales and Nilo Concepcion will provide the veteran presence needed in the paint.

Meanwhile, Lito Matildo will grace us with his on-court play and quickness as he is known locally in a couple leagues as “Luka”. Will he really be “Luka” or “Luka-lite”? This we gotta see.

The Underdogs will be powered by Rodfil Camacho, Kyle Aguirre, and Rodje Villa. After a Finals MVP performance in The DUB League Volume 1.0 Championship, Rodfil Camacho will showcase his leadership skills leading a young team. Aris Aguirre will also play for the first time alongside his son Kyle. Newcomers CK Arcilla and Oliver Poblete will try to figure out their roles in this team. Rag tag crew of veterans Jun Centeno, Philip Autencio, and Dennis Villa will provide the bench presence and stability.

This is a must see game.

Who really is the one that got away? This is the question we will all be asking this season.

GameCocks vs Kuya Cats

cockfight or catfight?

In a battle for barnyard and domestic animal supremacy, the Kuya Cats and the fighting GameCocks will face each other tomorrow.

Kuya Cats, originally ThunderCats, rebranded themselves after a bruising loss in the Semifinals in The DUB League Volume 1.0. Powered by Juan Gutierrez, the ‘Cats, completely revamped their roster as most of their players decided to take a vacation this season. The team will still be anchored by Gil Mandabon as their spiritual and emotional leader. Renz Villanueva comes back to the roster as their defensive specialist. The new additions of CJ Luna, Mohammed Karim and Toby Cudiamat sparks curiosity among the observers as they try to find their roles in this team. Veteran Arvin Dela Cruz will provide the sweet shooting from beyond the arc. High school standout Matea Mandabon will provide the youth and shooting for the team. GJ Eva and Ahwin Adricula will provide the wing presence for the team.

On the other hand, the GameCocks, which the captains thought was a joke in the beginning, is actually a reference to their leader Raymund Escarlan’s fondness of his gamefowls (as much as possible I try not to use the C word so our site will not come up in porn searches). Joseph Brimon will anchor the team together with nuclear powered CJ Pineda and newcomer Eric Pranivong. Defensive specialist Jingson Morales will provide that wing defense and tenacity. Newcomers Ryan Manalo and Cyrel Legaspi will try to figure out their roles in this team this season. Cupid Musa and Jerry Agtarap were holdovers from the HeadSpin team which lose in the SemiFinals to Voltes V in The DUB League Volume 1.0.

This will be an interesting game to watch.

Are you a chicken or cat person?

vs

Pogi vs Astig Boys

Ronnie Tallud vs Splash Brothers – Aaron and Aldrich

As the The DUB League Volume 2.0 starts, the Eraserheads decided to rebrand themselves as “Team Pogi”. I really have no idea who came up with the name but I think it also bodes well for the group. The confidence and bravado is something to look forward to in the games to come.

Rommel Calaguas, Ronnie Tallud, and Richard Osay (which I call as “Triple R”) will anchor the team along with the Number 1 Draft Pick for Volume 2.0 – Cris Dapon. The team also retained some members from the original team and added a veteran in Tiger Stark. Gerald Areja and Gerry Areja will play together for the first time. Jacob will provide the guard power and will play beautiful music on the break with Cris. Mike Beltran will still be the enforcer-in-chief for the Pogis and Mark Lim will provide the timely shots.

Ronnie Tallud is the much coveted player this season primarily due to his 3 point bombs and aggressive plays to the hoop.

Not to be outdone, the Voltes V team also rebranded themselves this season and calling themselves as “Astig Boys”.  The complete opposite ego of “Team Pogi”. They are rough and brazen but nonetheless similarly confident.

Astig Boys retained their core of Aldrich Acuna, Aaron Cua, and Aldrin Acuna while also keeping their enforcer-in-chief Popoy Vargas. The Splash Brothers graced us in Volume 1.0 with their sweet shooting and 3 point accuracy taking them a win away from the Championship. Their new additions Mark Companero and Dave Go will provide the big bodies to help out Aldrin in the paint while Mico Mercado, Mitchell Salas, and Ryan Cayabyab will try to find their roles in this team.

This is the classic case of high school drama between the “barumbados” and the “crush ng bayan”.

Who will win the battle between the two counter egos? Who will you pick?

Who will win the battle for 3 point supremacy?
