Kuya Cats vs Carabao Crew

‘Cats Got Some Bull Jerky

The ‘Cats made bull jerky out of the Carabao Crew in their Week 5 matchup and cruised to an easy 61-55 victory over them.

It was a game of rallies as the Carabao Crew held their ground in the first 3 quarters. Gabe Gaw finished a team high 10 rebounds along with 12 points while battling against the 3 big men from the Kuya Cats. Jeff Duria started cold early in the game but ended up a consistent all-around game with 19 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds. Paul Echaore finished with 10 points in the game in his best outing of the season so far hitting his long 3 pointers. Lito Matildo finished with 7 points while Cy Real finished with 7 points.

While the team was missing their starters, GJ Eva, Renz Villanueva, Gil and Matea Mandabon, the ‘Cats relied heavily on Juan Gutierrez monster game who finished with 23 points and 9 rebounds. CJ Luna had a monster game too with 13 points and 5 steals in the game. Ahwin and Mohammed had a slowed game with 6 points and 9 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Toby Cudiamat played for the first time and showed a solid 7 point effort.

The game was close but the Carabao Crew offense dried up like a jerky in the end.

The Underdogs vs Barakos

Barakos Bury The Underdogs

The Barakos came to the game without their big man, Carl Agcamaran, and had no problems burying The Underdogs in Week 5 on a 47-40 victory.

The game was in seesaw mode until the last quarter when Neil Bagalso hit a big 3 pointer to drive the Barakos home.

This run and gun misfits concentrated their game on Eugene Piong’s dominant 20 point and 7 rebound effort. Neil Bagalso finished with 9 points and Michael Perez with 10 points from the bench. Yoneo Gamalinda, Julius Ramos, and Mark Anorico finished with 4points, 2points, and 2 points respectively.

Meanwhile, The Underdogs were missing their best players in Rodfil Camacho and Kyle Aguirre. Kyle Aguirre was currently in Houston playing with Aldrich Acuna on a 16U tournament. Dillon Pineda led the game for the ‘Dogs with 14 points while Rodje Villa contributed with 13 points in the game. Jun Centeno, the old reliable, had a solid game with 8 points and 5 rebounds while Aris Aguirre manned the paint with 6 rebound outing. CK Arcilla and Dennis Villa both finished with 2 points.

It was a seesaw battle with no one had a clear advantage.

In the end, however, The Barakos were able to find a way and that one 3 changed the game.

FamBam vs Pogi

Team PoGI ShowED FAMBAM NO MERCY

After five weeks of play, Fam Bam was still winless 0-5 as they bow down to Team Pogi who showed NO MERCY the entire game.

Fam Bam came into the game hoping to notch their first win of the season. They started the game hot leading Team Pogi by as much as 10 points early with Frankie Mesa showing off his range and finishing the game with 14 points and 4 rebounds. Noel Bagalso also had a big game with 20 points. The Filomenos, Raffy, Bhon, and Brian finished with 5, 4, and 4 points respectively. Completing the losing effort was Frank with 6 points and Devan with 5 points.

Team Pogi started slow out of the gate but proceeded to win on a balance attack led by Cris Dapon who finished with 17 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Ronnie Tallud had his usual game with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Richard Osay also finished with 14 points along with Gerald Areja who finished 10 points. Jacob ran up the score with 7 points in the game.

Rommel Calaguas battled with Frankie Mesa both in the paint and on perimeter the entire game. He finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds.

It was a valiant effort for the FamBams but the Team Pogi superior firepower and balanced game proved to be too much for them.

Team Pogi rolled on them and showed no mercy. Not one bit.

Astig Boys vs GameCocks

Gamecocks on a roll – beat astig boys

Building on their heroic win in Week 4, the GameCocks came back firing on all cylinders cruising to an 67-36 victory over the undermanned Astig Boys.

The GameCocks had a great all around game. CJ Pineda started to work early and finished the game high 22 points and 6 rebounds. Eric Pranivong also had a monster day finishing with 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Joseph Brimon came back to man the paint along with Jingson Morales. Raymund Escarlan, Cupid Musa and Cyrel Legaspi dictated the tempo the whole game.

It was the other way around for the Astig Boys. Missing their big 3, Aldrich Acuna, Aldrin Acuna, and Aaron Cua, they were working through the game and tried to hang on against the superior firepower of the GameCocks. Mico Mercado had another monster game with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Ads Acuna finished with 8 points. Dave Go and Mark Companero battled against the GameCocks big men the entire game. Mitchell Salas had his best game of the season finishing with 6 points and 6 rebounds!

The Astigs fought the GameCocks tooth and nail in the first half but ran out of ammunition in the second half. It was bitter sweet as the usual bench players were able to display their game in a valiant effort to hold the line until the stars come back.

In the end, the superior execution of the GameCocks took home the bacon.
