Carabao Crew vs Pogi
brothers in hoops – more than a game
Between Jeffrey Duria and Ronnie Tallud, their upcoming matchup at The DUB League Volume 2.0 Quarterfinals Playoffs is more than a game. Jeff and Ronnie are in more ways than one – brothers not by birth but by their love for the game of basketball.
Jeffrey and the SemiPros were the eventual champions in The DUB League Volume 1.0 last year. Ronnie did not play that year and the success may have fueled him to lace up and join Volume 2.0.
While this may look and sound like a pseudo-sibling rivalry, there is much more into this game. Ronnie came in with a powerhouse of a team and were running opponents to the ground. Rommel Calaguas manned the paint like a berserker while his team of run-and-gun guards were shooting the lights out over their opponents. Mr. All In One, Richard Osay, had been waiting for this chance to get deeper into the playoffs after their loss last season in the quarterfinals.
Will this be another first round exit for Richard?
Cris Dapon, this season’s top overall pick, has shown that he command this team in the seeding round. But, can he elevate their game further in the playoffs?
Meanwhile, Jeffrey and his gang are still looking for the right formula after 7 games. It seemed like they had never been able to play together as an entire team. Lito Matildo and Nilo Concepcion are giving them veteran process but these two OGs had only played once together. Gabe Gaw, Cy Real and Paul Echaore were providing youth presence for the Carabao Crew and is still looking for the right combination.
Last season, Jeffrey and the SemiPros were the underdogs. Will they be able to pull an upset this weekend agains Team Pogi?

Fam Bam vs Kuya Cats
runaway train can they be stopped?
The Kuya Cats are enjoying an amazing season so far led by Juan Gutierrez. They ran over every team in this season except The Underdogs who pulled an upset in Week 3. Much had happened after that game as they demolished every competition along the way.
Meanwhile, Fam Bam, looked like they are slowly coming along. The margin of defeat has slowly getting smaller and smaller.
While they are 0-7 after the seeding round, Fam Bam may be able to pull a “Golden State Warriors 2007” upset over the Kuya Cats. Fam Bam is currently led by Frankie Mesa who had been more assertive in his game lately along with Noel Bagalso’s consistent play and Phoenix Galing’s defensive prowess. The Filomenos are also hitting their stride as of late with Brian, Bhon, and Raffy are slowly finding their range. Steven Nicolas will provide that steady play along with Frank and Devan Mesa.
The ‘Cats will primarily rely on Juan Gutierrez, although they showed on Week 7 that they can also win without him. CJ Luna will be anchoring the guards with Renz Villanueva and Gil Mandabon. Mohammed Karim and Toby Cudiamat, who said that he will call in sick, might be looking to get the team for a win in the quarterfinal round.
While this will look like a massacre on paper, the league is betting on Fam Bam to give the ‘Cats a run for their money.

Astig Boys vs Barakos
SHOOTOUT or SHUTOUT?
Much had been said about the shooting prowess of the Astig Boys splash brothers, Aldrich Acuna and Aaron Cua, and the athletic wings of the Barakos, Michael Perez, Eugene Piong, and Neil Bagalso. These two teams were destined to face each other in the playoffs and is promising to be a spectacle.
Bruisers Aldrin Acuna will battle with point forward Carl Agcamaran on the paint. This is perhaps a big challenge for Aldrin as he had to extend outside his comfort zone to take on Carl who likes to play mid range and perimeter.
Bisdaks Eugene Piong and Popoy Vargas will be battling it out this game. These two hombres were on their honeymoon a couple months back in the DFW Bisdak secret league. But this time, their friendship will be tested as both teams will try to win their matchup in order to advance to the next round.
It looks like that the Barakos will dominate the Astigs on paper due to their size and quickness but the Astig Boys also had their long range attack.
Will the splash brothers can finally run amock and get us dizzy with their 3 pointers or will the fast break and bully ball attack of the Barakos prevail?
Watch how the events will unfold this Saturday April 8th at Harry Stone Recreation Center @ 1015am in the morning.

The Underdogs vs Gamecocks
Revenge of the Underdogs or another Upset
The GameCocks surprised The Underdog in their regular season matchup with a buzzer beater win by Jerry Agtarap. The game was played with 4 players playing for the GameCocks compare to 5 players for The Underdogs.
That was a game of grit and pure desire to win. And a game that The Underdogs were supposed to win.
Hoping to have a complete cast in this game, The Underdogs will be looking to avenge their earlier defeat and proved to the league that the loss was a fluke Meanwhile, the GameCocks will be looking to have their full firepower this time with Raymund and Joseph leading the veteran cast. CJ Pineda will also be a workhorse in this game with Cyril Legaspi commanding the attack. New Dad, Cupid and Jerry will be the veteran one two punch.
Meanwhile, The Underdogs will have to rely more on Rodfil Camacho, Dillon Pineda, Rodje Villa, Kyle Aguire and CK Arcilla on their attack. This might be the first time where we will see this 5 players play together. Aris Aguirre and Dennis Villa will provide the veteran presence off the bench along with Philip Autencio.
Who will be left standing after 40 minutes? Will the young Underdogs triumph over the veteran GameCocks?
Only one way to find out
Come to Harry Stone Rec Center and watch the game at 915am on April 8.
