The teams that went on to play in the The DUB League Volume 2.0 Championship are set to meet again this time in the Quarterfinal round on the current season. Wish it will be a championship rematch but both teams had the unfortunate luck to face each other early in the playoffs!
The Kuya Cats won last season’s championship eventually over the Barakos, 51-41, who relied on Juan Gutierrez to bring home the bacon and the surprising appearance of Toby Cudiamat in the playoffs.
Carl Agcamaran led the Barakos in that game who had a high powered running offense in Neil Bagalso, Eugene Piong, and Yoneo Gamalinda. Unfortunately for them, their game slowed down when it mattered the most.
To give an idea on the score distribution on last season’s championship, here are the box scores.
Due to an offseason reorganization, Juan Gutierrez was moved to be the main man of the Senior Citizens. In return, the Kuya Cats got Frankie Mesa, Devan Mesa and Frank Mesa as well as Dillon Pineda in subsequent trade giving the ‘Cats the balance that made them formidable this season. They will rely on veterans Gil Mandabon, CJ Luna, and Mohammed Karim along with high energy guards Matea Mandabon, Renz Villanueva and Cy Real.
On the Barakos front, the team lost Eugene Piong, their high flying forward who missed the entire season due to an injury in the offseason. They, however, were able to get Mico Mercado, Yuhenyo Giron, Bryan Lim and Paul Echaore as reinforcements while losing Julius Ramos and Michael Perez in the offseason.
The teams were evenly matched the last time they met as you can see from the box score below:
Will the Barakos be able to avenge their Championship loss in Volume 2.0 or will the KuyaCats still prevail?
